How to set up IPVanish for streaming
  1. Check your viewing option. Confirm the exact event or title is offered by the streaming service, and check its travel, account and VPN rules.
  2. Install and sign in. Choose your IPVanish plan, then install the IPVanish app from your device’s app store and sign in. Our Android TV setup guide explains the steps for compatible TV boxes.
  3. Choose a location and connect. Select a server in the location you want to use. For travel access, check that the service permits your account to watch from there. Wait until IPVanish confirms the connection.
  4. Open your streaming app. Sign in to the broadcaster separately and open the event or title. Your VPN subscription does not include a TV subscription, sports pass or pay-per-view purchase.

Find a streaming app on Google TV

These menu instructions apply to Google TV. For another TV system, use its own app-store instructions. Google lets you search for a particular app or browse categories under the Apps tab.

  1. Open Search from the Google TV home screen, or press the Assistant button on the remote.
  2. Enter the provider’s app name. If its listing appears, choose Install and follow the on-screen instructions.

Keep your regular apps within reach

In Your apps, hold Select on an app and choose Move to reposition it. Confirm the position and choose Done. To remove an app, open its menu and choose View Details, then Uninstall.

Choose the right IPVanish app

Check the box’s operating system before installing. IPVanish distinguishes Android TV from boxes running Android Mobile: the latter need its mobile app, even if the product was sold as an “Android TV box”.

For a device running Android TV, use IPVanish’s TV setup instructions:

  1. Find IPVanish through the Android TV home-screen search and install it.
  2. Open the app, sign in and select CONNECT. Accept the connection request to start the VPN.

What the VPN adds to your viewing setup

Check the streaming service’s VPN policy before relying on it. Netflix says VPN use can restrict its catalogue to titles licensed worldwide, and is unsupported for live events and ad-supported viewing. If that affects your viewing, follow Netflix’s connection guidance.
